In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I decided to research into existing media products such as Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ and it has given me a much stronger understanding of the typical forms and conventions that are expected from thriller films.
From the first research i noticed that most of Hitchcock’s films were in black and white. However i decided to not have this for my real film but i decided to use a tool which toned down the saturation and colour of the film. This made the film look more mysterious and eery like the black and white would but not fully. This is because i didn’t want to take the attention away from the action and what was happening in the film.
Here is an example of a Hitchcock scene in a film called “Young and Innocent” which is in black and white:
I also decided to use a lot of close up camera shots like Hitchcock did for when Eve was in the chair as i wanted the audience to feel more what the character is feeling which makes it a lot more intense.
I also then noticed that the victims Hitchcock used i this films were all blonde and female so i decided to use the same with the character Eve. Because Alexandra in real life is only 14 when we filmed this i liked how young and innocent her face looks which is very similar to the look of the actors Hitchcock uses.
I found this video on Youtube which gives the good examples of different blonde victims Hitchcock uses in his films:
